PUBLIC APPEARANCES (IN-PERSON ONLY) BEFORE THE CITY COMMISSION: If any person wishes to address the City Commission, the person shall sign up using the online Speaker Card prior to the meeting or sign up in the City Hall lobby using the City Clerk's iPad. The online Speaker Card can be accessed at: https://www.fortlauderdale.gov/citycommissionmeetings. The Speaker Cards are given to the Mayor. After being recognized by the Mayor, the speaker should state their name and address for the record, identify the agenda item in question; state whether they support, oppose or are neutral for the agenda item in question, and then proceed to succinctly state their position or present information. If an attorney, or any person appears before the Commission in a representative capacity, the attorney or person shall also sign up using the online Speaker Card prior to the meeting or sign up in the City Hall lobby using the City Clerk's iPad. After being recognized by the Mayor, the speaker should approach the podium, state their name and address for the record, and identify their client(s), group or organization and identify the agenda item with which their client(s), group or organization is concerned. The speaker shall then state whether they support, oppose or are neutral for the agenda item in question and then proceed to succinctly state their client's group or organization's position or present information on behalf of their clients. If it appears the matter about which the person wishes to speak is not on the agenda, the speaker shall clearly state the emergency circumstances justifying Commission consideration at this time, and the Commission shall determine whether the speaker shall be permitted to proceed. If during any formal session of the Commission any person in any way interferes with or interrupts the orderly procedures of the Commission, or interrupts or interferes with the Mayor, a Commissioner, or the person speaking who has been properly recognized by the Mayor for such purpose, the person shall forthwith be subject to removal from the Commission Chambers by the Sergeant-At-Arms. Any person who, at the City Commission meeting willfully interrupts or disturbs the City Commission meeting is in violation of Florida Statute Section 871.01, may be arrested by police officers present. This may be done in the absence of the conduct being noted, or the offender being called to order, by the Mayor or other presiding officer. In case that any person is declared out of order by the Mayor or other presiding officer and ordered expelled, and does not immediately leave the Commission Chambers, the following steps shall be taken: 1. The person will be approached by the Sergeant-At-Arms and advised that they have been ordered expelled. 2. In case the person does not remove themselves from the area, they may be placed under arrest for violation of Florida Statute Section 871.01, should the person continue to willfully interrupt or disturb the meeting. 3. In case any person, who is ordered expelled, leaves the Commission Chambers voluntarily, and then returns to the same meeting, they are subject to arrest for violation of Florida Statute Section 871.01, should that person continue to willfully interrupt or disturb the meeting. AUXILIARY SERVICES: If you desire auxiliary services to assist in viewing or hearing the City Commission meetings or reading the agenda and minutes for the meeting, please contact the City Clerk's Office at 954- 828-5002 at a minimum of two days prior to the meeting and arrangements will be made to provide these services to you.
